About the role
As an Electrical Field Service Specialist, you will provide hands-on technical support for power systems across Canada. This includes field testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and documentation. You’ll play a key role in helping our clients operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with industry standards.
This is a hybrid role based in Edmonton, AB. You will regularly travel to customer sites across the country — from urban substations to remote industrial facilities — and perform both site work and remote documentation as required.

what you'll do
- Conduct on-site testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical power systems (low, medium, and high voltage)
- Identify and resolve issues with distribution and transmission equipment
- Document field findings, test results, and compliance reports
- Provide technical support to clients and collaborate with internal engineering teams
- Utilize the appropriate calibrated field testing equipment to complete testing and commissioning activities in accordance with technical and safety standards
- Ensure safe work practices are followed in accordance with client and company procedures
- Represent Grid Technical Solutions professionally on job sites and with client contacts
who you are
- Legally authorized to work in Canada (citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)
- Have a minimum of 5 years of in-field experience in electrical service, commissioning, and/or maintenance within the power industry
- Hold a diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from a recognized Canadian institution (e.g., NAIT, SAIT, or equivalent)
- Demonstrate strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities with testing tools and electrical systems
- Are comfortable working independently or as part of a mobile team, often in new environments
- Communicate effectively with clients, teammates, and support staff
- Have working knowledge of utility or industrial electrical systems and may have experience with NERC CIP, Doble, or Omicron systems
- Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license in good standing
working conditions
- This role involves frequent travel across Canada (flights, overnight stays, extended site visits)
- Work will be a combination of outdoor site environments and remote office-based tasks
- Requires the ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs, bend, crouch, climb ladders, and work on elevated surfaces
- Exposure to varying weather conditions and industrial environments is expected
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, background screening, and adhere to safety protocols on all sites
